Bernie Schreiber

Widely regarded as the most influential American in the history of observed trials, Bernie Schreiber stands as a trailblazer whose achievements reshaped the sport both globally and at home in Southern California. Born and raised in So Cal, Schreiber developed his skills on the region’s rugged terrain, where his distinctive blend of balance, technique, and creative line-choice first captured attention. What began as a local passion soon evolved into an extraordinary career that placed him among the world’s elite.

In 1979, Schreiber achieved what no other American rider has matched: winning the FIM World Trials Championship. His historic title not only elevated U.S. presence in a European-dominated sport but also introduced new levels of athleticism and strategy to modern trials riding. Over the course of his career, Schreiber secured numerous victories on the world stage and became known for pioneering riding styles that influenced generations of riders.

Back home, Schreiber remained deeply connected to the Southern California mototrials community. He competed frequently in local events, mentored emerging riders, and helped foster a culture of skill, sportsmanship, and innovation. In addition to his international triumphs, he earned multiple AMA National Trials Championships, further solidifying his legacy as the most accomplished American trials rider in history.

Today, Bernie Schreiber’s impact is felt every time a rider attempts a creative move, approaches a section with strategic precision, or dreams of competing at the highest level. As a So Cal Trials Association Hall of Fame inductee, he represents not only competitive excellence but also the spirit, passion, and progression of our sport.
