The period of time in the desert springtime, from about 4:30 to sunset, is magical. The sun begins tilting lower in the sky, cooling the desert air. The light, so harsh at noon, softens to a glowy golden hue. Rocks radiate the heat they've absorbed throughout the day, and your tires grip them the way the Michelin man intended. You already did the Adventure Ride. You should call it a day, but it will be light for another couple of hours. Plenty of time to howl then, after the moon rises and the campfires rage.
For now; just ride. One more rock.
See you at Cougar Buttes.
