Talk Trials > BIG FEETS Spring "Rock Pile Ranch" Rally

Big Feets Spring Rock Pile Ranch Rally is shaping up for the week after Easter, culminating in a non-points paying Fun Trial on Sunday, 15 April - exciting, creative and challenging sections in the shade of the tall pines. We're planning some cool things including big bike rides through mind blowing single track, dual sport Adventure type rides, and some youth oriented activities that will put big grin on smaller faces.

More to come in the next few weeks!

Heading up Friday to get the motorhome on site, lay out the loop and rough out sections. Mike has been clearing the Gravesyard for even more "magic" and landowner Ken D. is excited to add his acreage to the mix. Ken's place includes the "cell site", a massive rock pile that overlooks the Kelso Valley all the way back to the Jawbone saddle. The section possibilities are amazing and the views, well, think section 4 at Keyesville with even more distance.

For those who don't want to tow a heavy rig all the way up Alan D. is putting in more facilities that he can offer to guests at a low rate. He's got an 8-person office-type bunkhouse ready, he will rent out his two-bedroom, two-bath house (full-kitchen, pool table, game room, bar, etc.) if anyone wants deluxe accommodations and he just picked up an 8-room barn-type building to add to the complex. The new barn isn't done yet but it will be finished by the fall Big Feets Invitational.

Alan is also put the finishing touches on The Grumpy Grizzly Tavern / Church of The Holy Sprocket. The place is coming together really well and will make a great Sign-Up/Scoring/Vendor Row area for this and future events.

The weather is warming up nicely and the terrain will likely be WET. Yep, that means we will find water and put you right in the middle of it. Get yer' mud face on for this one folks.

Also will run an enduro line for all the Piute goat trail riders so this aspect alone will be more entertaining that one might imagine. Most Piute riders love insane technical single track and will tackle the rocks with gusto! This is gonna' be fun to watch!

More to come, including a better-late-than-never flyer with maps to the site.

See you in the sequoias!

When was the last time you rode a trial that had snow in the sections? Well, here's your chance! The weather Gods have been too nice and plan to put the frosting on our Sunday doughnut. 1-2 inches of snow is forecast for both Wednesday and Friday night/Saturday!

The roads will be easily passable because it takes 6-8 inches and a bit of colder weather for the snow to be a problem, Getting up Piute Mountain Road will be okay. Jawbone Canyon Road was graded only last week and is much smoother. No rain ruts at all.

We've been building some NEW sections in addition to the ones we had last fall. We hope to have 10 brand-spanking new sections and we might even mark up some of last year's best ones just for more fun!

Here's the detailed weather forecast:

Tonight: A slight chance of rain and snow after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. West southwest wind between 7 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday: Snow showers. High near 40. West wind 8 to 11 mph increasing to between 18 and 21 mph. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Breezy, with a west northwest wind between 17 and 23 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of snow showers after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 38. West northwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Thursday Night: Snow. Low around 32. Breezy, with a west northwest wind between 17 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday: Snow. High near 36. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy and breezy, with a low around 26. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Saturday: A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy and blustery, with a low around 31.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 56.

Arrrrgggghhhhh, too much snow! Event is being moved to Memorial Day weekend.

Memorial Day is this weekend. Just wondering if the event is still on? I understand if people are still recovering from Nationals last weekend. Let me know.

Yes! We are still having a "Fun Trial" on Sunday. Ten (10) sparkling NEW sections, buddy-check format, all lines (although we don't expect Pros - they will be at the Nationals in Colorado). We'll still put in a Pro line so anyone can ride it if they want to try. After all, it's a "fun" trial :-)

We'll be up about 9am Friday morning putting the finishing touches on the sections and loop. There will be campfires & BBQ's happening both Friday and Saturday nights. Big bike rides will be going off constantly throughout the weekend for those who like knarly single track.

And the weather is shaping up to be wonderful. Cooling off significantly so that it will be like a brisk spring weekend, quite different from Cahuilla. Temps are only rising to mid-50's Friday and Saturday, with Sunday coming in at a nice 67 degrees - perfect.

And the icing on the cake might be thundershowers on Friday! If we get a bit of the wet stuff the rocks, forest floor and trails will be spectacular! It's what us Big Feets Boys dream about ...

That sounds perfect. I'm planning on coming up early Sat morning. Is there any way I can get a phone number or an email so I can ask you some more questions before I drive the motor home up there. My contacts are blkbart00@gmail.com & 805 558 8425. So glad to hear it's supposed to cool down and I'll keep my fingers crossed from some rain Friday. That would be awesome.

Thanks
